Dimple Dies....which ones
Ok, I know a few of you guys out there have the dimple dies....which ones? What sizes? What grade steel? How thick are you going with them?
I'm thinking about shelling out for a set....not sure I would ever need a top of the line set? I almost would rather have a complete set of a lesser quality and have more hole options?
I don't know...whataya got....whataya think?

CWB... Here is how I did mine. I've seen them on ebay for like 250 ish for a set of 5. I think they offer a couple of different sets like 3/4-2" and 1 1/2 to 3" or something like that.
This is the die ...

Practice...

First step... measure and drill holes

Insert into the "squeezinator" and squeeze...

1st piece done... these will be for the "A" pillar

Sill plates being measured up...

One down... one to go...

Made this little thing to protect the oil filter...

Installed...

All of these parts will be added whem I mount the body for the last time. I just wanted to have them ready. I will post more pics at that time

Those look more like flanged holes than dimples; the main difference is flanged holes usually have a 90 * flange rather than being something like a CSK (countersink) as dimples usually do. Interesting! Do you remember where you got them?

Yea we talked about it...his lathe is pretty small for turning the hard stuff, especially the larger ones. He would be there a while and for 2-$300.... I think I would save him the time and wear on the machine.
My question was more if anybody had used some of these "knock-offs" or if the Pac Customs ones were Chiwaneese or us made?

Re: Dimple Dies....which ones
I did a Bing search and found several places that carry them and they are expensive; individually, they start at ~ $75 and up. During the search, I think I remember seeing someone selling a small hyd pull through tool for the dies, that way you only need to buy what you need. I didn't look for oval dies or things like that.
I think they are tempered and ground to get smoothness. The pressures they can get are pretty large and they can impress any flaws during the process.
Bead rollers are a little cheaper but not that much. If you can find it, there is one company that also sells a louver setup for the bead roller. CWB, I think there is a guy in Eastern WA that does louvers for the rodders.

$32 clams for a 1 1/2", says its made from heat treated steel.... probably tough enough for a garage build but prob.aably would wear in a production shop?

I blew almost $500.00 on my set at kartek, and then found tthis guy... Fabbed his own dimple die set using different sized trailer balls and bearing races... would probably go this route if I were to do it all over again
