Internal mods for direct coil control

Like the title states, im having some issues on setting this thing up correctly. I got tired of fiddling with the edis, and decided to take to some advice and go DCC. I have two bip373s wired up with one on q16 and one on the case under the pcb. I had no problem wiring in the coil drivers, but now trying to start, i cant get a tach signal. I have a ford edis coil and vr sensor. The sensor is wired to pins 1 and 24 with the shield to in 2 on the db37. Having my board previously setup for edis, i had jumpers at optin/tachselect, and a few other places, and i think that is my problem. Can anyone tell me the exact jumpers i need on the board for the tach/vr sensor input? I need to know about D1, D2, XG1, XG2, Tachselect, and TSEL; the ignition circuits are already setup, im pretty sure those are correct, but i wont know for sure until i can get a tach signal. Previously with the edis i had a tach signal, but during the changeover, i lost something.
Im getting so damn frustrated with this damn ignition im about to throw my 009 back in!!!

if you scroll down a little bit you will see the diode method. You take the output off of both drivers and they going into that diode rectifier circuit, then the output goes to your tach. I grounded my tach to the MS too. BTW my tach is a autometer.
Hush your mouf about wanting to put a 009 back in, lol.

haha. I actually don't know why im not getting a tach signal to the MS. I will worry about driving my gauge later.
I know im confusing sometimes when im trying to describe these things.
Putting in a 009 is the last thing i want to do, but my honda just died a couple days back, and i need a car like yesterday. I hate headgaskets, especially on my DD's dirtyazz motor.

hold on, I thought we were talking about tach_out not tach_in that changes everything. So what are you using to trigger MS? VR, Hall, coil?

Ford edis vr, 36-1 wheel. Also what settings should i run in the code base output functions? I had edis on there by mistake, and i changed it to MSNS, when i did that i got some spark advance to show up during cranking, but still no rpms. Currently i have the vrin jumped to tsel, and tachselect to vrout.

Are you using tunerstudio? on tuner studio you can see the signal from the VR sensor before and after it gets chopped into a trigger signal. It is a very useful tool to make sure the sensor is not wired backwards and that your signal is not noisy. does it register rpms while your cranking?

Well i need to be running tunerstudio... I will import my tune into TS and see if i can use the trigger log thing. No i dont get rpms when cranking. I would think that if i dont have a rpm signal in, then the program wouldnt see any kind of trigger signal, but i will try it and see.

Sounds like settings and or VR sensor. There a huge section on ms extra about trouble shooting. If your not seeing rpms when cranking then your not getting any spark or fuel.

So i found some info that looks good here,
http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms1extra/MS_ ... l.htm#vrin
So it looks like i should have jumpered tsel to vroutinv, i have it just to vrout. And i think xg1 shouldnt be jumpered to xg2.
Also, is it ok to have a screened cable that has 3 soldered connections? Im thinking crosstalk might be an issue for me aswell.
I tried tooth and trigger logger on TS and didnt get a damn thing. Im going to have to go through my wiring again later.

it does sound like a jumper issue, even with my VR wired backwards I still had something on the logger. I also had noise on my VR circuit, got that to clear up by grounding the VR to the ign wire shielding and then grounding that to the engine case.

Supa aren't you running a similar setup except with 4 drivers? Do you happen to remember what you have for jumpers?

I don't remember exactly how I jumpered it but I do remember following how MSextra said to jumper it.

Is there actually one wiring diagram i should follow? cuz i have seen about 10 different ways to wire in a vr sensor. I have tried wiring it into pins 2 and 24, but i have also seen pins 8 and 24. Im thinking pin 24 is the signal, and the other pin is a ground? Today im going out to find some more shielded wire, cuz im sure part of the problem is is my shielded cable that has been spliced by 3 pieces.
My current jumper setup is tachselect to vrin and tsel to vroutinv.
My concern is that i still can't get anything to show up in the trigger or tooth logger.

Have you gone into tuner-studio and told it what out put you are using. I couldn't get my MS2 to fire until I told tuner-studio what output I used.

I got some bs to show up in the tooth logger finally... I had to get the wheel decoder crap correct, then playing with the wires from the shielded cable, i managed to get a log file. I dont know how to show the actual log, like the blue lines, but maybe someone can look at this and tell me if it is correct.
So, maybe i was screwed from the beginning when i was trying to temporarily twist the connections together to make sure they were oriented correctly before soldering them. Im thinking now they have to be soldered and wrapped before i can even test them.
I have no idea what this crap means... Praise jesus for something to happen before i gave up.
