Hello,
I am new to this forum, but have been tinkering with VW's for a few years.
I have an 1981 Vanagon (calif. westfalia model), that I put a CDI (MSD) in a few months back.
Given its winter, I have been doing my best to check, maintian and update things and am about 3/4 of the way through putting in a VDO CHT (huge pain to get the sender to sit right ...).
Anyway, In taking out the plugs I noticed they were very glazed - after only 1,000 or so KM's with the CDI ... Up until the CDI the plugs were always 'normal'. My understanding is I need to lower my heat range ... but by how much ... and what plug?
My gap is increased to .40, but I was using normal temp. Bosch plugs ... what are people running / what would you recommend for my application? I have heard good things about NKG, and done some reading and temp. mapping charts, but looking for some guidance and real work experience? ... have way too many spare sets of plugs as is ...
Thank you,

Re: Vanagon - CDI - Spark Plug Recomendations
seems like NKG B6ES gets alot of attention, at 1 step hotter than usual ... I'll be running in the summers only, 90% highway for a couple hours at a time ... so was thinking it may make sense for more than 1 step ...
we'll have to evaluate and test in the mid summer after a few trips
would still love to hear any suggestions or experience
thank you,
