Hello everyone. I have a 75 bug now! it is in really good shape. I have alot to learn. I have been skimming real quick and see type1 and type2?
I also will need to find papers. they currently power a new mexican bug.
I plan to do all the work myself. body is real good. drive train needs attention. original engine came with the car as well as a half built engine with new parts box.
it is a 4 speed car.if anyone has papers let me know.

Howdy. I'm about to get my first VW in a few weeks, so I'm on the same boat as you.

Welcome to the world of VW addiction.
Fstnu, type 1 is bug, or superbeetle. Type 2 is bus, van, microbus, transporter, kombi, etc - all of the VW buses. Type 3, type 4, type 181 are less common cars, but they're still in use.
If your car has no papers, go to your local DMV and see what they can do to help. Depending on where you live, papers may be trivial to acquire, or expensive - or in some cases nearly impossible. It depends on what state you live in - in New Hampshire, any car over 25 years old doesn't need anything except a bill of sale.
The best investment you can make, is to buy the John Muir book (How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive) and the Bentley manual for your year of car. The late model bug Bentley is pretty cheap, as Bentleys go - about $40 to $50. The Muir book is about $20. Those two books and a set of hand tools (listed in either book) will allow you to fix pretty much any problem you car has.
