Subaru Conversion build (EJ22)

hey guys im fairly new to the forum scene and i already have my build on the samba
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... 1fecf31a87
at least up to a couple steps before i test it to make sure it runs, no coolant or anything just starting it for about 5 to 10 seconds to make sure i can start to mount up a few things, but any who I was curious if i should bring that build over to shop talk because it seems to me that the samba is a little more all aircooled vw's rather than to many swaps and the swap community on shop talk seems to be really high.
So shoul i bring it to this thread to get a little more input than i would on the samba? maybe not to many people would really care in the first place but that doesn't bother me any

Just looking for any input thanks guys!

awesome ill post the last page of the current swap on here but it seems its hard to upload pictures like the samba like i can upload a 4mb photo and here it says it has to be smaller than 250kib or something similar to that so is there a way around that because the iphone takes some fair pictures.

Im a bit tired of the way people are on the Samba. Dont get me wrong there's lots of nice and helpful people there and it's a fantastic source of knowledge but this forum feels more like home.

right!! thats how i feel, im not trying to knock on anyone or the samba at all because i really really like it and i am glad i joined but the swap community other than aircooled vw's is close to non existent, but thats all good though, i still love cruising through stuff on there. Also a ton of really well put together builds!
I got it started yesterday so i was pretty pumped about that ! ill post my last page of my thread on here and continue with what all happened yesterday after i figure out how to post photos and stuff

i got the top temporary mounts mounted for the radiator, and quickly tidied up the wiring harness just to make sure it runs and to mess around see the different areas i could put everything everything is almost set up just waiting on my fuel tank to be done so i can finish up to makes sure it runs

now me and my buddy have to cut the bottom frame and re-weld around the the exhaust, bottom side coolant housing, and oil filter SO if anyone has some good ideas i'm open ears. Also what if we adapted a Vanagon motor mount bracket similar to the one in this link (9th picture down) i feel like just regular 1 1/4 " exhaust pipe wouldn't be strong enough.

Also seems like a stupid question im guessing i need both o2 sensors remind you its obd2. Another question too has anyone ever thought of doing a true dual exhaust, like two manifolds 1 for each side but they do not connect the only concern is the o2 sensors
thanks guys

And heres the video of it starting

Also my incredibly safe fuel pump side and return style fuel system

Congrats on it firing up! Thats a good feeling, i know.
Are you going to do dual exhaust?
I went with unequal length headers merged into a single muffler. The unequal length headers is what gives subaru that distinctive sound.

Also, not sure if your aware of it, but you can get a thermostat housing that points straight backwards so its not in the way of the exhaust.

thanks satellite! it was 100% the most relieving sound to here now its downhill from here (not sure it thats how its said

) but im not letting my guard down with anything and still taking my time but im just super relieved!
i want to if its possible but not sure how i put the o2 sensors, but do you have a link to the unequal length headers? thats probably how i will end up doing mine making it into one and then into a small muffler of some sort! I will check out the coolant housing that points backwards.
You by chance have a video of yours? I want to know how it sounds

also can i use regular exhaust pipe for the coolant lines and a few hoses? or does it have to be aluminum?

Good to see it run DBUG. I bet you are relieved, I was too when mine started. There are sometimes problems mixing metals in the cooling system but they do make coolant additives for that but I went with aluminum tubing so I wouldn't have to worry about it. For the O2 sensor I got a O2 sensor bung off of ebay that is steel and just drilled a hole in my header and welded it in, you will need 2 of them or 1 and a rear O2 simulator if you go that way.

thanks Ed! oh you already know biggest relief in the world! where can you find aluminum piping? and is it alot more or barley that much more. Yeah i have 2 sensors and probably would be wise to have both and instead of a simulator i didnt even know they made those.
When i started the car its fine but when i rev it, it dies right after im thinking because my breathers coming out of the valve covers that go to the intake are just sitting in the air and theres literally just the MAFS attached to the throttle body so i feel like that might be it to

They do make a second O2 sensor cheater, same people that make the speed sensor cheater I think. You still need the first one though. The thing with 2 O2 sensors is the first one goes before the CAT and the second one goes after the CAT and they should be reading differently and it may set a code if they don't, I don't know. As for the aluminum tube I used I got it off ebay and it was 1 1/2od 1 1/4id 6061 and 5' long and cost $32 with shipping. You also need to run the idle air control air through the MAF sensor like Subaru did and make sure you plug the power brake booster port too.

nice i might end up getting that vss cheater but i hear from a couple people the computer adaptes to the frequency or something odd like that. but ill probably end up doing that with the pipe sounds not to expensive.
Im not going to have a CAT in the system so itll probably read off, hopefully not but ohio is not to strict on emissions. Ill have to check out the idle air and i THINK i plugged all unused ports on the intake but ill have to double check
