Chris Mursick and I took our Ghias to the Bonneville Salt Flats last week and had a great time running at the 2017 Speed Week event. Chris's black Ghia runs a 1968cc normally aspirated engine and I am running a 1915cc turbocharged engine.
Chris beat my 2 records from last year running 113.358 MPH in G/CFALT and 124.611 MPH in G/CGALT (G is the engine size, Classic, Gas or Fuel, and ALTered is the body style).
I set one open record in G/CBGALT at 134.606 and we beat a record held by a turbocharged SAAB in G/CBFALT. We bumped the record from his 140.857 MPH to 146.715 MPH. I had an unofficial top speed of 150.3 MPH and we will be going back out in Sept. for World of Speed to run some more.
I have a 28" tall rear tire so at the 150 I was only at 6300. This weekend we went back for the World of Speed event. The two Ghias were in impound again. Chris ran 109 mph with a 36 HP 1500cc in H/CFALT. I added bumpers, headlights, and fresh air grills and changed classes. I ran 155.089 and 161.395 MPH for a record in G/CBGC of 158.242 MPH. I had a top speed of 161.898 at 6800 rpm and only 15 lbs of boost.
