case stud removal
i wish to remove the main studs and the perimeter studs from my block. is this an ok thing to do? i imagine they are just threaded in, but i dont want to take the risk of damaging them somehow.

Re: case stud removal
It is hard enough to do with the old mag cases, if my head stud attempts in the past are any indicators they are quite content where they are. I doubt one would hurt the studs, there is always some risk of case side damage
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Re: case stud removal
I'd go along with sideshow's opinion but... there are ways and risks to do it.
This is one style of head stud removal tool. I have one and have used it mostly successfully but I am not sure of using it in the case where the studs are close together. You'd have to do some measuring.
The removal tool goes as close to the block as possible so you are applying the load next to the threads. This way there is less chance of there being any un-wanted off-center loading applied like double nutting the upper thread area then applying a load.
Another one of the problems is that the metal in the stud and block have joined (chemically or incompatible materials) and when you start rotating the stud the threads of the block can tear loose/strip and then you are in big doo-doo. I'm not sure if there is a chemical you can add a while before you try to remove the stud.
