Is this supposed to be this way?

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

May have to zoom in, maybe it’s for adjustment.

Good thing it was in double shear. It probably would have just broke the bolt off. And we know what could have happened then...πŸ˜‰

It looks like you stressed the spherical rod end "tree ways" (sorry about the play on words but I just had to do it   ). Spherical rod ends have plusses and minuses; plus is the load goes down the rod end into the tie-rod while the minus is "pulling" on the rod end that can stretch it. It looks this end had a minus hit  .

They still are good ways to do it certain things and what you are doing usually works out well.

Funny play on words Lee. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ When I went and bought new ones the guy asked me do you want the cheap ones or expensive ones? I usually try not and go the expensive route but sometimes you need to.

I would have set that one on the counter and said you tell me what I need.

There are times to be... ahhhh, lets say... in-expensive and times not to be in-expensive but suspension things are not something you want to take chances on. It's like the question of pressing in and reaming vs. pounding something in. Violence can cause things to go wrong and you have to do it again... $$$$$ and you could have failure quicker than otherwise. I learned my lesson from others making mistakes!
