With Turbo and Super charging you can create massive horsepower with vw motors.

How efficient will this intercooler placement be?

Post by DORIGTT »

Hey all,
I saw this on a car on Facebook and am curious how effective / efficient this intercooler location can be with a Ghia with a factory decklid?

It would all depend on what the owner is expecting out of it. My guess is by itself it will take out 30-60 degrees of heat until it gets some heat soak in it.
Mine is half that size on the back of my buggy and it actually helps more than I expected. I use it combined with W/I and I can see ambient IAT's at 22-23 lbs of boost. Mine removes a minimum of 30-40 degrees of heat and another 100 degrees with the W/I.
Considering he has no cooling tin on that motor to keep the heat out of the engine compartment he will have high temps before the turbo which does not help matters at all.
Putting a couple fans on it wouldn't hurt.

This is a street legal race car that was thrown together 2 or 3 days before an event. I'm sure effort will be put into making things more street friendly in the future.

I bet if you put deck lid stand offs on that it would direct air right into that intercooler!
