Is it some kind of filter? Should I just remove it(put a new inline filter in under chassis already)
I plan on replacing or rebuilding the original pump is why I am asking.

Any idea.....
What this part is???? Been searching and haven't seen one in thousands of engine pictures!! Main fuel line goes into it then fuel goes to pump, fuel then goes from pump BACK to this part and then to carb.
Is it some kind of filter? Should I just remove it(put a new inline filter in under chassis already)

I've heard of pre-filters before but never seen one. But by your description it sounds like a combination pre-filter and a filter.
As to replacing it how old is it and how long has it been in use. A hard question to answer.

I believe it is original to the car. Just wondering what to expect if I remove it as far as performance.
