Look what I found...Vopard Vokaro
A Vopard Vokaro.
Some data here, here, and here.
It's for sale in Frederick County, MD. No doors, and the engine just hangs out the ass end like a dune buggy. It looks relatively complete except for the rusted out exhaust that's sitting in the passenger seat.
Guy wants $5,500 for it. I'm thinking about offering $2k, just for giggles.

Pretty cool but you are going to have some work to do to make it safe.
It will be a nice re-build to document for here.

The body seemed in good shape. I have enough T1 mechanical parts (Stripped a 1970 beetle 30 years ago and still have the parts) to upgrade to BJ and IRS suspensions. Seatbelts? I imagine lap belts would be doable. Likewise I could have the roll cage stiffened up.

Re: Look what I found...
What year is the chassis? If it is an earlier chassis than '66 the front end is K&L here in the states and later off-shore. I have pix of the change over for a BJ beam which is pretty simple but does take finding and removing the front upper section of the front of the pan (the spacing of the two beams on the different BJ or K&L beams is different.R2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:17 pmYou put your finger on it - how much work needs to be put into it.Ol'fogasaurus wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:07 pm Pretty cool but you are going to have some work to do to make it safe.

If you have swing then want to convert to IRS the basic parts are available on line.
The cage is a good idea but it will be tight. The placement of the top tube(s) to connect the front and rear hoop can have several different placements and shapes making entrance and egress easier.

Contacted the guy; it's titled as a 76, but he doesn't know which year pan is from.
I may try to look at it this weekend and bring a flashlight and a mirror.

I stopped and looked again. It appears to be a 1970 chassis - BJ and IRS suspensions, and the engine number starts with a "B" - that was one year only in the US. It also has a Pennsylvania "VIN" plate attached to it.
Here's another view:

Re: Look what I found...
Do you know what you are going to do yet; e.g., buy or pass (don't rush but give it a lot of thought unless you are afraid of loosing it
)?
Based on the pix and your contact posts there are somethings I would somewhat question while other things seem to be OK.
Have you sat in it yet, if so how does it feel: sitting in the seat is it comfortable, is the body or anything in your way of getting in and out or might be when driving? Is the steering wheel feel in the proper location for you.
Does the engine run and have you heard it" Does the trans and clutch feel OK"
What do you know about the wiper arms and blades (my first buggy has something but were so short I could not find replacements for them.
Does the trailer come with it?
One thing that would kind of bother me is the hoop: to me it looks like it may need some additional support for safety.

Re: Look what I found...
I'm still toying with the idea. I'm certainly not paying $5,500 for it.
Haven't say in it yet - the driver's seat appears to be unattached.
Guy hasn't gotten back to me on whether it runs or not. I'd like to set up a meet and talk to him in person, but right now he's pretty late on texting me back.
Not sure about the wiper arms, though from the pics they look pretty standard.
I'm not sure it the trailer comes with it, but I'd be tempted to offer another $1k for it.
I know it at least needs an exhaust. I'm assuming it needs some engine work to make it run, as well as thoroughly going over the chassis and suspension. I'm also assuming the hoop is basically for show only.
I'm not too worried about it selling soon - it's not like that stretch of road gets a huge amount of traffic.

The windshield in ways looks like it came from a real car (maybe a VW) but not sure. The shape of it and how it is trimmed on the bottom and the sides of it is where that question came up. The wipers also drew my attention to the windshield but that was because of my blue buggy's wipers not fitting on the buggies low windshield.R2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 10:14 am I'm still toying with the idea. I agree that the hoop probably is probably for looks but I would consider beefing it up as a "just-in-case" thing.
Also, measure the wheel base. It looks to be pretty short but then the body itself alone with the flashy paint could cause that that appearance.
The "stretch of road" thing is what I ran into back in the early 90's. I drove past a long back rail for sale but when I went back to talk to the guy about it... it was gone. A few day later I found out that one of my friends had spotted it and bought it so I had to bear with that for many years

I did later find out that I can't ride or drive a rail w/o getting motion sick so my buggy w/body was the only choice. One of the reasons to drive something if you can. Another one I drove took about 10 to 20 feet of moving to find out that it's setup would not fit me when driving. Just sitting in it was one thing (marginal) doing the rest of the driving action was another.

From what I've been able to find the windshield is from a Karmann Ghia. The windshield frame bolts on to the rest of the body. Likewise I believe it's a short wheelbase, -14 1/2".Ol'fogasaurus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 12:02 pm

I won't be crushed if I lose it. I already have another project and this would just be for giggles.
I agree with the driving part - if I can. If not my offer will be commensurate. I'd offer 2k assuming it fits me to sit in but doesn't otherwise drive.

Did you buy it? I’ve loved those since they were available as new cheap kits. But, that’s a lot of money. I’m in Harford county, but pass through that way on my way to Frostburg.

I haven't bought it - too many projects.
As to price, he sent a text out to everyone wanting to get rid of it quick as he was having some family issues. He might be open to a low price. Hell, I may offer him a grand just to get it under cover. I say go for it.

I won’t be heading out that way for another few weeks. I love the way it fits on that small trailer. What’s going on engine wise?

It's a "B" engine - 1970 1600 SP. No chance to hear it run.
