Best year/model for Drag racing?

OK So i see a lot of posts about engines and transmissions and how to beef up existing parts. Using search i can't find what the best thing to start with is. Would a super beetle be where to start because of the simple strut upgrades for drag suspension? Or would an older bug be better because of down right simplicity of parts and weight. I really want to build a no prep Bug to run some where in the 6s range (1/8 mile) if not faster. My local race is starting a 26x8.5 class for their no prep race and i think a bug would be at the very least fun and entertaining.
