Engine/Trans crank seal

had a slight drip from my 2L 914 seal since install, looked for the Sabo, cant find it, other reccomendations?
they the 10 or 12mm? I know Ray did a sermon on this but I cant search that out either, suggestions or pointers welcome.

Front or rear, (IMHO) they go in the case dry. You can put a little rtv on the outside (NOT on seal edge) where the seal meets case but it shouldn't leak there regardless unless someone got too aggressive pulling the seal out and borked the hole in the case..

As to the main seal there are actually 2 different thicknesses...Maybe 3.

Also that slow drip is usually be caused by a groove worn in the fan hub or crank. that is repairable with a machinist and some $, they make repair sleeves for hubs in most imaginable sizes. Using the "wrong" seal may move where the lip hits enough to miss the groove.

It can also be weeping from oil plugs or the cam seal...

Thanks, that was the article I was looking for,
the 2L Porsche GA cases are 12mm, and thats what I used and in fact that wasnt leaking,
when I pulled the flywheel bolts out oil just poured out of them, so it was the Oring that was leaking.
it looked rather dilapidated, so new seal and Oring this time and hopefully it stays dry.

When you replace the o-ring...install it dry. Theo-ring is "graphite" coated. Thats all it needs. Oil or grease can be enough of a film thickness to keep a low tension o-ring from sealing.

I did install it dry, I figured if they wanted oil on it,they would not have put that graphite on it! We'll see in the spring but I feel much better about it sealing properly this time. the reason for all this is a Rancho Transmission that apparently they didnt put new bearings in on the rebuild,
30Kmi later the input shaft bearing is louder than I could make the radio get. Got a local expert doing it again over the winter.
