What can i do with my typeIV??

ok, here's the scoop:
I put a rebilt FI 2.0L in my 77 bus, but i kept the core, because i wanted to try my hand at engine rebiulding (1st time). Then i stumbled upon this site and realized i can get WAY more than 68hp from my engine. I want to build a sorta mild engine, maybe stock 1971 or a little bigger, and put it into a bug, type III, or porsche carrera. I know where i can get 2 bugs for free, but i'd have to convert to upright cooling. I've seen tIV pancake cooling in a carrera and in a type III, but I'd have to spend money buying a car then.

ok, here come the questions:

how big of a crank can i fit without clearancing the case and still use the stock rods?

how big a cylinder can i fit without machining the case? aren't there some 96mm slip ins?

what sorta cam should i get? valve sizes?

do i have to drill the case more a top mounted dipstick? mine's in the rear. is there an adapter?

remember, i'm looking for a milder engine, 120-130 hp, prolly stock 71mm crank and 94 or 96mm P+Cs. that's 1971cc or 2056cc, right?

what sorta carbs should i use?? i think the consensus would be 40IDF webers or 36 dellorto's? sounds like the dells are better.

also, what the Joe Cali upright conversion?? is that that book Next Generation?

that's all i can think of right now.

Also, to Jake Raby, if you are going to North vs South shootout next week can i bring you some heads to do some machining for me? maybe a case too?
