Hello All...
I have two 1.7L motors. The one I have torn down has a dipstick tube like a T1, not the long type that was put in vans. Also, the flywheel does not have the needle bearing in it, the bearing in the crank. Is this a Porsche motor, or what is it? I know that an easy trick to put T4's in T1 trannys is use the 210mm bus flywheel with a different needle bearing in it. But this one is in the crank... What gives???
Thanks!

If the pilot shaft bearing is in the
crankshaft it means the crank started its
life as a stick shift Type 4 Bus crank or
a stick shift 411 crank. If the case has a
dip stick on top (not quite like a Type 1)
its not a Type 4 Bus case. Note that after
30 years, a lot of changes can be made by
each owner. Normally, the 914 has the pilot
shaft beariing in the flywheel so that
engine was not hooked to a 914 trans.
Installing the 210 or 215 flywheel requires
machining the flywheel, installing the pilot
shaft bearing in the flywheel and using a late style TO bearing on the Type 1 trans.
