air filter in Ghia

Can you squeeze a '74 bug style air cleaner for a 1600 into a '63 KG or must I use the aircleaner assembly just for the Ghia? I would like to the paper type. Since the '63's have the built in metal rain gutter maybe there is more room than the newer plastic rain gutter system. Is it wishfull thinking?
