If the guy is trying to sell it as a Westi check for a rear heater log under the rear seat, if it has a log it is a Westfakia and lowers value a bit since it shoudl be a passenger van.

Rust is fairly obvious, rockers, rockers, and front floor boards... Check front nose for wrecks (bondo city) bring a magnet. Battery tray is normally toast as well.

Consider rockers and the battery tray as normal for a MD car... At least this, probably more rust than that though.

If this is a really nice bus with good rockers and floors expect about $4000.

Drivable beater $1500-3000.

Not driveable $500-1200.

A real westi is another matter all together. Check pop-top if there is one (there are real westi non-pop-tops). Look for the interior parts to be there and condition. If all of it is there and it runs expect $5000+ even with bad rockers and battery tray and floors.

The split values are getting nutty, you will find a great deal or someone who thinks it is made of gold.

You are east coast... Do not see many splits these days do ya? Heck I lived in northern VA for 18 years and never saw a split!

hey guys,
i was hoping you all could help me and my friend out here. my friend wants a bus and has found one located near us for sale, we are going out to look at it tomorrow. i know about bugs but not too much about buses besides a few random things. its a 65 kombi, its interior has a table and cooler and the rear seat folds out into a bed. i assume everything is working inside, the engine is a 2110cc which im sure should help it cruise pretty fast. i dont know about rust and body condition yet but i am going out to look. i wanted to know what to look for in terms of rust and body condition. where are bad areas for rust in a bus and stuff like that? if the body is solid, how much should a pre 67 bus go for? anything you all know will help me out. thanks a lot, sorry this post is so long.

Hmmm, that's funny I live in Northern Va too and know of at least 6 or 7 splits that I see a few of them alomost weekly, a couple don't ever move but there are a few drivers.
I paid $100 for my '73 camper(sportmobile, not a westy) from MD it wasn't running at the time and we had to tow it (on the belt-way!)
It had a few rusty spots and still does, but it's my buddy.
