astron,
the motor should work, it would be a 1.7l, but may be a big hassle to make work, the FI system (?) will be wrong for the bus. the trans won't. you need a bus trans.
get a bus motor and trans. it will be easier and cheaper in the end. i have seen bus motors for 100 bucks or less, trans's for even less.

412 to bus feasable?
No experience on this, but have seen posts that claim the 412 motor will fail in a bus. I think Jake Raby made some comment on this in a thread, and I also recall that it has something to do with the higher Compression Ratio used in the non-van type 4 motors.

412 to bus feasable?
I ran a 412 1.7 with 32/36 weber in a '72 westy for years with no problems. This includes many cross country trips. If you want to dropp compression a bit, it's no big deal to shim it. The engine is a bolt in unless the 412 is an auto or something. Not sure about the 412 trans since I've never fooled with them. Whatever bus trans you use, make sure you use the same syle starter that came with it.

412 to bus feasable?
i'm pretty sure the tranny won't fit, but i ran a 1700 from a 412 in my 75 westy for about 6 months or more. VERY good motor indeed. mine had only 30,000miles on it tho'.
also easier if you use the bus heat exchangers , the variant ones don't really match up to the bus connections.

The FI will be fine in the bus...the vehicle type will make no difference. It should also run cooler. There were many L-type injected buses, and they are not quite as adjustable as D-jet. The transaxle from the 412 standard will not work. If its an auto, it will fit when bolted to a bus auto differntial section...but would probably be more trouble than its worth. If you have a standard 412 trans you don't need, I may be interested ib buying it. Its a nice tranny, but the shifter linkage and hook-ups would be really differnt and the gear ratio is too high. Final drive of 3.79:1 or 3.91:1 and a 1:1 forth gear. Ray
