Redline, Official Weber distributor in the U.S.!

I was at the Tweeks Porsche show yesterday and had an interesting conversation with "The" official Weber carburator distributor in the U.S. The first thing that I asked him was about the Weber carb discontinuation. He told me that he would love to wrap his hands around the guy's neck that started the rumor. The only carb that Weber does not make anymore is the 48. Everything else is still being made overseas and there are, absolutely, no plans for stopping production!

I'm a WD for Redline, so I know what they have and what they don't. No IDAs, and no DCNF in the sizes we want/need.

I'm going to try to hang out here a little more with you guys (along with discounts for Shoptalk dudes), and try to help out. I learned a LOT about type 4s (been putting them in type 1s for 15 years), about what works and what doesn't), and will try to relay this to you all.

Yes John, your right!

There was another carb set that Bud said was discontinued and thank you for mentioning the DCNFs. I know that you are one of their customers, because I mentioned your name (aircooled.net)to him. I downloaded your tech article on Jetting and syncronizing carbs. I found this article to be the best, yet and would highly recommend it. Following Bud's advice, my duals are running the way they are supposed to today! I do have to put the Uni-sync on them to dial them it perfectly. And yes, I can imagine what you're going to tell me about the Uni-sync. All I got right now, but a sync-meter will definately be in my toolbox soon.

Welcome John to the Shoptalk!! We'd like to have you participate where you can.

It is definitely good to hear that Weber is still manufacturing the IDF series, but it's a bummer about the IDAs and the DCNFs(my 1799cc Type 1 has dual 42DCNFs on it). So, what's the situation for parts for any of these models (IDF, DCNF, IDA)?

DCNF: parts are getting tough to come by, but I have rebuild kits and some other small parts. Believe it or not, air filters are a SOB to get for these guys!

IDA: Most main parts (including rebuild kits) are easy; jets are no problem. If you break something, you are closer to up the creek.

IDF: still in production, so parts are readily available. There are early and late IDFs, and early parts are a little harder to get (though many are "replaced" by late parts that fit and work fine). No problem for these.

Dellorto owners are the ones that are gonna' have problems as supplies dry up (we don't carry Dell parts).

Berg has aircleaners for DCNFs and also a good supply of parts for them. Good being relative.

PS, I bet your 200mm disc will work under a 210mm pressure plate.

I picked up a set of 24/24's at Tweeks and have a few questions. They came with Claude's Buggies airfilters and manifolds(type4). I was told that they came off a 1.8 914.
-What is the biggest displacement type4 that they will work on?
-What is the value of these (they are complete; linkage, etc.,..)

I can easily make that disc in a 210 or 215mm version, no problem. My only difficulty is getting CORES to do it with.

For those wondering; we make our own special clutch disc; it's awesome! 1/2 puck, and 1/2 genuine asbestos for easy engagement with a TOUCH of slip. If anyone is interested in a 210 or 215, let me know (I would need you to send me a core to make it).

BTW TH: you ever priced Berg's DCND filters? OUCH!

Yes, I have a set for my 42 Berg specials. And I can guess why they cost more. They are flat and fit right compared to some other stuff I have looked at or had. The ACs I had for some 40 idfs took me several hours of work to get to seal they were so warped, cast that way in Tiawan. My time is worth X dollars per hour to me, If that X dollars will buy me a better product and KEEP me from getting frustrated at making it work, guess I'll spend the money. Just my way at looking at it. Sure I have sometimes done the corner cutting but it usually doesn't save me anything. Swap meets are one of my favorite places.

On the disc. If the id is the same on the 200mm rings as the 210 and 215, and the surface area is close on the rag part(bet its the same sq. inches on your trick ring) it will work AND shift faster due to lower rotating mass and shorter torque arm that the synchros have to deal with (easier on the syncs), See where I'm coming from? Some old tricks that we use to do before the advent of some of the newer 2 plate clutches, back in the stone ages. I'd run one in my Notch if the auto packs it in.

Good question. CB sold them in the early 80s. If I'm not mistaken, they are a progressive (mechanical secondary) 2bbl, used in a dual application, right?

I don't know how they worked out, but they didn't stick around long. I'm a fan of vacuum secondaries, not mechanical. That being said, I think they should work well on most any size engine (the principle is sound), but the thing that matters is how you tune/jet them. It's going to take some work to jet em'. I don't know if you have one or two idle jets/circuits on them (though I can look it up; what is the model #?). 24/24 what? I need a model #!
What venturi size do they have?

Mechanical secondary. Dual Weber 24/24's
Don't know anything else about them!
Claude's Buggies Universal type4 manifolds (2liter 914 3 studs as well as regular type4 4 studs)
Claude's Buggies air filter housing with foam filters and screen.
Serial number:W-450051 (printed on tag above float bowl)
Any info is greatly appreciated.
