I started considering puttin a 911 engine to replace my stock 1600cc engine, but the price it too high for the engine itself. I've read some posts here that total conversions can cost around $2k, more or less, so now maybe going down the road of a GTI engine.
What does it take to put one of these in a stcok bug? Obviously the engine, tranny adapter plate, clutch and radiator. Was there anything I should look for besides body clearance? Any info would help.

What does it take to put H2O in a bug? A water hose in the window??? Sorry the Texas heat has refried the brain. Seriously check out "Superman's" (forum moderater) web site he has a GTI in his super. Hopefully he will chime in. The only problem I see is you will have to modify your deck lid due to length of the motor.

you could also convert to the VW waterboxer which from what i hear is a fairly common conversion in europe. then you have a watercooled motor that will fit in an aircooled VW engine compartment.
2k for a 911 conversion sounds a lot low.
911 motors usually sell for a lot more than that
