The 914s look like great cars, and I am looking to buy a 914 or 912.
What kind of engine buildups has everyone done? Does anyone have a turbo? I'd like to hear about race cars or street cars.
What engine builds (aside from chev. V8) has everyone done?
And, on a last note, if anyone has a Porsche 914 or 912 for sale on the east coast I'd like to hear about it, at [email protected]

People do all kinds of crazy things to 914's. There are 3 turbos that I know of (4 cylinder). Lots of six conversions, meaning installing a 911 motor. A few rotary engine have been done too. One or two 928 V8 engines also.
The most commom is the 2.0l 4 cylinder motor. Mine is tricked out to produce 110hp which is pretty quick. With the stock Djet FI.
Jake Raby is building 4 cylinder engines in the 160hp range if you want more go power.
All it takes is money!
For the best car get one from Calif where they are rust free. Have it shipped out to you. Contact Mike Zois, look for him at Rennlist.com in the 914 mailing list. He ships cars all over the place and is honest.

My 914 is presently having a 2270cc stroker built for it. 155HP give or take a bit maybe? Either way these are great cars, I enjoyed it with my poorly tuned low compression 1.7L which probably wasnt even breaking 70HP, these things are a blast too drive. Anyone who talks crap on these cars, HAS OBVIOUSLY NEVER DRIVEN ONE. Drive hard have fun!

A 1.7 that barely breaks 70hp...thats sad. Properly tuned it should give the 82 its listed at. With a few tweeks and a cam...I get 102 from my 1.7 in my 412. Its a fun high revving engine. Theres a lot than can be done with all of the type 4 line. Ray

Thx for that tidbit of info Ray, lol. I know a 1.7 can be made to make over 100HP if set up properlly. My 1.7 was a 30 year old, un-rebuilt, improperlly jetted dual carb engine running low compression on 2 cylinders, Hense my power guestamation.

I have an engine on the dyno now, mild state of tune and 2270cc, 146BHP and 151 lb/ft of torque is what it made on the first run...
Getting power is not easy it takes blueprinting and a GOOD combination of parts!
