Back in the mid 80's my dad built one of his kits, left it with the red gel coat, 2275 from Jim Behrens at B&B German auto, midengine made it handle great, He sold it to some guy from Malibu, Ca. when he started his next project.

I've got one and it's a blast. I think most of the kits are great be it a Vintage, Thunder Ranch or Vintage.
You should check these sites:

About 10 years ago I visited Chuck's shop and checked it out. The only thing that bummed me out was that I couldn't buy a convertible top mechanism if I bought a kit version of the car (he offered a built up version which is actually made in South America, Brazil I believe).
AFAIK he currentl offers only the turn key, although you can indeed buy kits from some of the other guys.
Go here
http://www.kitcar.com/search/search.pl and type "550 Spyder" There's some real good reading that I strongly suggest you research.

Sorry, I actually implied that they were all kits. As far as I know in the U.S. the only readily available kit is from Thunder Ranch, both the Beck and Vintage are offered as complete only. I think there are other kits outside the U.S. but would probably end up being more expensive with duties, etc. Mine is in fact a Beck kit, just from the late 80's.

Hi Bert,
and all others who replied. We actually know Chuck quite well, just interested in your comments. Chuck is quite a guy, I remember his "SHOGUN" Ford Festiva. Crazy

. I was also intereseted in a
real 904 he knew of, unfortunately it was sold

.
Anyway, we'll more than likely get the 550 and stuff one of our turbo/intercooled/EFI/crank ignited motors in it as a MOORE RACING mascot..Low weight, 320+ h.p., 930 brakes yada, yada, yada...
Thanks for your replies.

Hey Joe, you reminded me, when I visited Chuck's shop way back when, he did indeed have a couple of those Festivas with the SHO engines (stuffed in the rear). You'd surely need to wear a couple pairs of undies to ride in one of those!
I understand that Chuck is now involved with Avanti Motors where he's producing his 904's and Listers. He's also designing the chassis for the next generation Avanti.

Sure hope they can stay in business, being spread so thin and all.

Hello Joe,
How effective was the intercooler in that application? I would think that there wasn't much airflow through the decklid, or am I wrong?
My reason for asking is that my Ghia has a "similar" setup in vehicle shape and I would like an air-to-air intercooler (versus an inter-heater

) but my concern is for airflow.
The plan was to mount it horizontally in the engine bay above the 911 fan.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any and all pearls of wisdom from the forum.
Nice car
