Engine Confusion
Well I was looking at my Hanes manual and on section 2-3 theres two tables on the bottom showing horse power ratings and I own a 72 Ghia. On my engine it starts with AH which says that its 60 hp and has dual ports, but my Ghia was purchased in Germany and then imported to the U.S. This somewhat confuses me, is my engine a dual or single port engine?

Engine Confusion
Dualports have a three-piece intake manifold with aluminum endcastings which bolt to the cylinder head and are connected to the steel center section with rubber sleeves.
HP numbers vary depending upon whether you're talking European (DIN) or American (SAE) horses; to further confuse things the SAE system has gross & net numbers. Most manufacturers started advertising net rather than gross SAE HP ratings in ~1972 to placate insurance companies which had gone ballistic over the horsepower ratings of the early musclecar days...
I've never seen a 1972 "AH", only "AE", but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Presumably 47DIN/60SAE would be correct.
The only significant physical change in the carbureted dualport engines came in mid-`71 when the compression ratio was reduced from ~7.6 to 7.3, and no change was made in the advertised horsepower then. What I'm getting at is that the advertised HP number is pretty unreliable and irrelevant, so don't get hung up on it. Hard to say what yours was delivered with/rated as - are you even certain that it's the original engine?
Most sources refer to a `73/`74 US-market dualport ("AH" 1600) as a 58HP. http://www.together.net/~rhill/years2.htm http://kfz.freepage.de/flat4/changes.htm
