i' ve bought a new steering box for my 69 bay window.
i was installing it and i saw that the exit arm spline is different.
the new box have a bigger (maybe 2-3mm) diameter spline and i cannot use the box with my old exit arm (the little arm from steering box to yhr pitma arm that connects to the steering pivot on the front beam.
how can i do? i was thinking to go and buy a different arm from a scrapyard
Do i have to look for a 73-on bus? is it right?
thanks, Peppe

73-on steering boxes use a bigger shaft. these are more durable than the older 68-72 models. to let it install i have to buy a used exit arm from a scrapyard.
to install the box in a 68-72 frame it is needed a little grinding in the hole where the box is fitted, because the casting is a bit bigger than the older.
however it is a good upgrade. the later box is really stronger.
all of the rest fit the same!

and also it is needed to hammer half inch of bus near the box, and relocate 2 of the box studs through the frame. the whole process is time consuming, but the results are good.
i really didn' t want to install an old or rebuilt box on that bus. my friend wanted a NEW box and that is!

recently buses come on interest of italian people. i know a lot of boys and girls that have buses and drive around with these. many of thes are with camper interior, often self made.
a lot of these people are surfers.
decent/good buses here are around 1500-3000 euros for bay windows and around 5000 and more for split ones. Sambas are rare and quilte high priced. someone asks also 15.000 euros (!!!). I have 2 bays, one 69 and one 72, i am buying a 63 23 windows bus to be restored, before i had a 74 camper, another 73 camper, a 63 combi, and a 58 combi, all sold.

I live in rome, if you come here tell me.
