Westfalia Roof Rack Locks

Post by Here To Go »

Hey everybody,

I purchased a westy rack a couple of days ago and I want to put some kind of lock on it. Does anyone know a source? Google didn't help, unless it's a Thule rack.

Thanks!

We offer roof rack locks, and have them in stock right now.

These locks work like they should, but we have heard from the manufacturer that they are working on a new design that will match the repro bus racks better. The currently available locks are small cylinders, 1" diameter and 1.5" long that enclose the head of the bolt to prevent theft.

Thanks, Eric!

The rack isn't a repro, so will the locks still work? I may hold out and see the new lock design they come out with. Do you guys have a picture of what you have in stock? I'm curious to see how it works.

They will work with your rack, no problem.

No pics of them yet.

Try to visualize this:
Lets say you have a bolt going into the wall of your house. Too keep people from taking this bolt out, you take an open soup can and pop a hole in the bottom of it that the bolt will fit through. You then re-install the bolt to the house, with the can on it. Now you lock the lid onto the can, and people cannot get to the head of the bolt to take it out.

Same thing with these locks, except they are machined stainless steel, about 1" diameter, and about 1.5" long. The key goes in the end of it, and removes the 'lid', exposing the head of the bolt so that you can then remove it. Pretty slick, and don't look bad at all. Will work on any rack that uses a bolt to secure the clamp on the rack. Kits come with two locks, and two keys that fit both locks.
