Problem figured out. Now, need a solution!

Post by Batan »

I think I have my warm running problem figured out. When worm, car would pop, hesitate and choke once I stepped on the gas but it was idleing ok. Also, cold running was quite better.

Cause: accelerator pump shaft is worn on the pump side. When the accelerator cable pulls on it, the shaft opens the air intake but it does not engage the pump right away due to slack so the engine gets too much air and not enough gas until you press the accelerator further and the pump finally sprays fuel. I shoved the screwdriver behind the shaft and bent it a little bit so it's tighter which made it behave better but it is not solved.

Solution:?

YOU CAN REBUSH THE CARB HOUSING WITH OILITE BRONZE BUSHINGS

Post by rimspoke »

THEY SELF LUBRICATE SO THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED FOREVER .
YOU WILL NEED TO DISMANTLE THE CARB . MIC THE THROTTLE SHAFT ,
ORDER THE BEARINGS ( I GET MINE FROM McMASTER CARR )
GET THE SMALLEST OD SIZE THAT FITS THE SHAFT .
THEN LINE BORE THE SHAFT HOLES TO A PRESS FIT SIZE FOR THE
BUISHINGS . THE BUSHINGS MAY NEED TO BE SHORTENED
SO THE SHAFT SPINS FREELY WHEN RE ASSEMBLED .
I HAVE ALSO DONE THREE SETS OF KADRONS WITH
NEEDLE BEARINGS & SEALS !

I think he needs accell pump parts...

I thibnk he needs a good use accel pump linkage... but your advice on rebushing the throttle shaft is good.

Batan what model carb do you have. and alternator or generator? I have alot of carb parts

It's a Solex PICT 30 -1

I have also slightly twisted choke butterfly. MAybe it's better to get a whole used carburator? :?:

There is nothing wrong with rebuilding good used carburetors if your sure it?s repairable but some times it?s best to just bit the bullet and buy new. The Solex you need is about $100 give or take a few dollars and will give you a sold investment for your money. But don?t let me discourage you from buying used and rebuilding that?s part of the fun unless this is your only mode of transportation. Good luck....

I have some used parts from alot of dud carbs, that model included. I could ship you a top and the accel linkage for cheap if the rest of your carb is good.

Well, I dunno. Maybe I should buy new. The choke butterfly is twisted, the linkage is worn and holes for the 3 screws holding the choke spring in place are stripped. Non of these are not too much hassle but I want to get the car going asap.
What do you think?

well, a good used top I have wil solve the twisted choke buttefly and the stripped screw threads ( all on the top of the carb eh?) and I have about 50 accel linkage combos from parts carbs... so .... Post an e-mail and we'll take it from there, if you like that is...

Now, I've got used top with the shaft in it. Nut is not there too but no linkeage. Since the idle does change when carb cleaner sprayed around the shaft on my original carb, there is a leak there.
As I said, this top did not come with the linkage on it and I'm wondering should I try swapping the bodies anyways. :?:
