HAVE TO REPLACE SEALS!?!?!?
I've started rust removal/sanding my 73 Bus (daily driver). of course there are several areas that need atttention near/around the window seals. right now i am focusing on stopping the rust, not a total refinish (YET!) The seals are pretty good, not all dry rotted and nasty (at least some of them). I dont want to replace them until the complete refinfish project on down the road. CAN THEY BE REUSED OR DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM ONCE THEY ARE OUT?!

John....the glass and rubber are not to bad with a little paitence,The trick is to (from the inside) push on the glass at the corner area with a flat hand real hard at the same time rolling the rubber lip towards the glass this will loosen it a bit ...work around the corner about 10 in. then try to tuck the lip between the rubber and the body with a large flat blade screw driver being carefull to hold it square to the rubber so as not to damage it.be carfull not to slip and hurt yourself your glass or car.the side and rear glass are tempered glass and can take a lot of pressure start at the corner closest to your door handle for the sides and when doing the rear start at the side but loosen and work the seal past the curve at the center to allow it to move the front glass is lamenaed and is very easy to break(even without those dumb clips) but not impossible. The key to the side glass is to get the front two corners out first use patence and ease up on the pressure when it is about 30 % out. btw the duller and blunter your screw driver is the better..hope this helps.Bill

be careful with tempered...you can whack it pretty good with a hammer, but any sharp edge, such as the point on the flatblade screwdriver, will shatter it with relatively light pressure...hillbilly wrote:the side and rear glass are tempered glass and can take a lot of pressure
excellent advise....btw the duller and blunter your screw driver is the better..hope this helps.Bill
