Help .oil pump problems

Hi
Has this ever happened to you?

I am building a 2110 with straight cut cam gears
I have built the long block and put the oil pump housing in the case.

Then when I place the top gear in the oil pump and locate it with the cam gear, and then turn the engine over by hand, the engine is fine for 3/4 of a turn but then it starts to bind up and is stiff to turn,then it frees up when you go through it.

I have tried turning over the engine without the gears in the oil pump, and it is fine then.
The oil pump is a Berg one and case is brand new AS21 mag not Alley.
Any ideas ?

I have checked the length of the oil pump gear with respect to the cam gear and it is fine.

Presumably the gears spun fine before the housing was installed in the engine? Any chance that something's distorting the housing slightly once installed, maybe a pipe plug that isn't quite below flush?

Engine spins fine with housing fitted and no pump gear/cog ,its just when i slide the pump gear in the oil pump housing, thats when it is a problem.

Oh sorry man,
yep ! the gears spun fine before the housing was installed.
