Discs?

As I have just separated the body from the floorpan, I'm months or a year away from any body work. But scanning this site I see info suggesting discs are a good way to fix dents. I'm not clear on how these things work. Can someone give a neophyte a primer (no pun intended) on this?

The disc spinning fast against the body creates friction which creates heat. Same with a heating torch, heat can be used (when used correctly) to make metal shrink or smoothed out.

So the disc attaches to a drill? What material is the disc and do they come in different sizes for different sized dents?
