Wider track - which wings / fenders?

Post by VeeDubly »

Hello There,

I've just lowered my early '65 bug with CB dropped spindles. I'm running CSP wide5 disks and the end result is a big increase in track width. Has anyone else experienced this?

Rather than shorten the front beam, I'm looking for wider wings / fenders. The car is pretty much stock looking so I don't want flared panels or late style headlights. The only custom panels I can find are widened by an inch only. Anybody know of early stock style 2 inch wider panels?

The only other option is to go with small wheels n tires (currently 185/65's on BRM's. Seeing as the car is pushing 180bhp and will be going around corners quickly I don't really want to go down in size..

I think that CCC makes wider fenders in the old style...or if you don't like fiber(re)glass, I've come up with a way to widen steel fenders and retain the stock look... more or less. So far only done a Ghia and a 914, but it will work on a Bug as well. I did not have a Bug to work on for the video, but the techniques are the same. 1"-1-1/2" (maybe a bit more) in the front, and 3" in the back would be possible. I'm just finishing up a video how-to on the subject. I will probably do a Bug specific video in a year or so. Here is an album with a few pictures:

Thanks guys,

Seems there's a lot more choice in the U.S. then in europe :?

Just noticed that CSP in Germany do 4cm wider front wings but they are way more expensive than in the U.S..
