defroster tube repair

Post by bugboytim »

I HAVE A 66 BUG THAT HAS ROTTED-OUT PAPER DEFROST TUBES. IS THERE AN "EASY" WAY TO REPLACE THE BUG DEFROST TUBES AT THE POINT THEY TURN UP BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL HOUSING. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET MY HAND DOWN THERE FROM UP TOP UNDER THE HOOD. I HEAR YOU HAVE TO CUT SHEET METAL OUT FROM INSIDE THEN COVER THE HOLE WITH NEW SHEET METAL AND CARPET. IS THIS THE ONLY WAY? I DONT WANT TO CUT MY SHEET METAL.

Sorry, but you already know the answer. You have to cut an access hole to fix it. Others have tried (see posts in both the newbie section and the Type1 section of this forum), but if you want to really fix it, cut it open.

i have a 74 with the same problem, i went out the other day to figure out how to do it and i notice a metal Y pipe just out of vision. on my 74 the tubes dont run down the whole side of the car, it connects to that y tube just below the hinge spring, any how good luck!!!
