All right guys. I need your help. I've got a 69 type 3 fastback. its got the stock I.R.S. Manual tranny. and no engine. I've got a stock type 4 engine Case. Never been rebuilt. Had approx 30k miles on it. Picked it up for $150. I need to build it up to be a semi Hi-po Street commuter motor. I've got some questions now.
1.
what are the best parts to get for it. heads,Cam,Cylinders,Crank,Ignition, etc.
2.
Does a Type 4 engine have a stock alternator setup on them.
3. what kind of Engine cooling tin Am I going to need to put this sucker in a Fastback.
4. Will a type 4 engine bolt right up in a type 3 engine bay?
5. I need to keep the price to about $2000. is this possible while still getting a semi Hi-po Engine with Hydraulic lifters.?
I greatly need your help guys. I'm a novice messing around with Professional Ideas. Hey why not just stick a type 4 motor in a type 3. More power. More oil cooling. Hydraulic lifter option. Alternator. Hey sounds good.. But Not as easy As I expected... PLEASE>> HELP ME OUT. Thanks
Ryan

69 Fastback Type 4 Conversion
check out my install at: http://users.aol.com/my65notch/index.htm
1 65 notchback with a 2300cc type4 motor installed. Use bus tin ( I modified 914 tin - cutting and welding before I knew any better- but bus tin will work better .I used Mark Stephens heads, p's & c's, cam crank - but he's gone now. You can try the company that took over his shop for parts. Or try Eurorace, Pelican Parts, Fat Performance.
I used an 050 distributor with an MSD box and Jacobs wires. I also modified my distributor rotor by grinding out the resistor ( as per John Conolly - "thanks John ! " ).
The type4 motor will bolt RIGHT up !
I bought all my internal engine parts from Stephens for about 1800$ including engine bearings. I had several cases hanging around. I think that you should be under 3k for your entire engine buildup as long as you assemble the motor yourself. Type4 parts are more expensive as compared to type1/3 but not twice as expensive as I had been led to believe.
Yes - you will now have an alternator. I used an external regulator and had to run some new wiring but it was worth it.
