This is the front of my new project. A '67 that has lived it's life in California and I'm the second owner.

It was hit but the damage isn't really that bad. Should I just try to straighten the front apron or put in a new one.

Not bad for free. Anyway the original color is L639 Zenith Blue. I'll probably paint it that color or something similar. The body is very straight except for the damage shown (and a power antenna hole that needs to be filled). The original owner was pretty handy with body work and everything seems to be in good shape. The turn signals and trim holes were filled so it will probably be a good canidate for the Cal-Look.

BTW--The front beam is from a Ghia and it already has disc but I'll probably switch it back to wide 5.

i have a 67 also with almst identical damage,it would probaly cost less to get a new apron welded in and let the hood fit better also.you would probaly spend more time repairing that one than what it is worth.

Is it my imagination or does the whole quarter panel need to be replaced? Viewing the ridge of the quarter as it runs from the front to towards the back it appears to be pressed in. Also, the fender well appears to have wrinkles. That would be more of a concern than the front apron. I would suggest replacing the quarter panel and front apron.

Well, it is not your imagination. I double checked and about an inch above the second fender bolt it seems that it did buckle (at a weak point). I'll take better pics tomorrow so you guys can see what I mean.

Thanks for the replies.

I just found a pic. but it is very bad quality. I think you'll get the point though.

The arrow points to where it buckled.

BTW That is the original paint underneath the crappy undercoating. I can't seem to find any really bad rust. I guess that is a plus.

does the hood sit properly along the sides because it looks like at the top part of the mounting location for the fender where the large area of undercoating came off look to be buckled a bit compared to the passenger side?definately fixable and definately cant beat it for free. how does it run?good luck with fixing it!laterz

That area above the fender looks fine and from what I can tell straight. I'd highly doubt that area would be effected but who knows. The hood is a little crooked but I assume becuase the front apron is pushed out and over alittle.

Does it run? Well, no but it doesn't matter because I am building a 2332 for my other '67 but it looks like it will go into this '67. The electric is good and pretty sano. I need to redo the interior; gray velour. Blah!

Aloha, if you get a come along and some light duty chains you can pull that out. Find something to anchor the come along then by using a chain find a bolt that will fit into the chain eye and bolt it to the fender mounting holes. Try to get at least three to make the pull easier(if you can). Make sure that you do not use to much presure to pull, or the inserts will pull out. If they are already out then put a washer and nut. Crank the come along and while the presure is on take a dead blow hammer and a two by four.Put the wood on the area that you will need to pound and hit it with the hammer. As you watch, the presure on the come along will decrease, which means that the panel is being pulled out. Continue to repeat the prosess until the panel is square and the hood closed properly. Hope this helps.

I finally got around to fixing the damage. If I replaced the whole apron it would have been a total mess. Anyway I hammered and dollied it out and it look very good. I need to get it down to bare metal and use a shrinking disc on it. Wish me luck.

It is hard to tell in the pic but it is very smooth and back to the original condition (almost). The apron had no rust so I decided to spend the time and do it right. I'm very happy with the results and believe it or not it was my first time using a dolly and hammer. Unfortunatly I had to open the hole where the upper support was and now have to close it up the right way (no filler).
