4140 forged verses 4340 forged cranks. Is there enough difference to be concerned about?

I think the 4140 is lighter. Might be misinformed.

The 4340 has nickel added to it for higher strength levels. The 4140 does not have any nickel content.

Thanks. CB Performance is advertising a 78mm forged stroker for $189. It is 4140 steel. Real tempting.

The 4340 will have a 15 to 20% greater strenght over the 4140 because it has a greater alloy content (Nickel)

In real use I doubt that you will find any difference unless you are tweaking the last ounce of possible power from your engine, other pieces are much more strained in a VW engine than the crankshaft
