Just posted some photos of my inner rocker repair on my $300 '74. I made the panel from 18 gauge sheet metal. I still have to do the outside rocker. The photos are on TheSamba if anyone is interested. Search the "Thing" photos for "Promised Land Thing". Any comments or suggestions are welcome since I have never done this before.

Now for something constructive:

The rocker repair looks very professional and well done. The POR-15 will make it last. Think of it this way it took over 20 years to reach that level of corrosion. Good Job!

This is how I repaired my Baja using a different technique:
I used West Systems Epoxy and non-woven fiberglass mat.

I was not objecting to nthangs post. I was complimenting mdog on a job well done. Read back. The signature line is something he posted here about ME. After awhile it became such a joke that I decided to use it as my sig. The more I read it the funnier it was because it could not be more inaccurate.
I`ve seen this same thing happen to Jake,Shad and T-5 Joe in the past. It comes and goes with the territory. Yes I did ask Richard to be polite here after taking a shot at me but that is a moderators responsibility no matter who is being offended. Believe me I do not like this any better than you guys do. Did you have to cut out any metal to access the rust area in the back of your Baja?

My 75 bug has the same problem and I don't want to cut apart a perfect headliner.

That is the bad part I had to "cut open" the sheet metal on the inside to access the interior side of the sheet metal. I also removed all the foam lining (cause of the rust). Since my headliner is gone anyway, I am making a Baja and I don't have a welding machine. I did save the pieces I cut out and I plan to pop rivet them back in with mending plates. When the new headliner is installed (I may just cover the inside with speaker box carpet) it will cover the mending plates and rivets.

I used epoxy because it actually bonds to the metal very much like POR-15 but with different chemicals involved. Fiberglass resin like bondo will eventually absorb moisture and rust the metal again.

Moderator? WHY?????? The other forums, save one or two, have no "moderator" and seem to work well, even with a gazillion posts, like the Engine Rebuild Forum. Personnal, I find it annoying that the title translates to a "ask Bob a question" senario, where you feel obligated to throw your 2c on every last single bleeping post. Is that really in the best interest of this forum, the way you understand this awesome responsibility of commenting on every single post????? This forum (like the others) would work BETTER WITHOUT a MODERATOR, imho. Thingers don't, as a rule, find this url to find a person, they seek information from other thing owners. No tour guide should be required for that.
