Paint Removal - Other than Blasting

Post by Phil Smith »

Hey guys, I have a 56 that I'm starting, got it torn down and about to start the metal work. The VW's I've restored I just used my Harbor Freight Sand Blaster, but I'm looking for another way. I just don't have the time that I used to have while in School anymore.

In particular I'm looking to have the car acid dipped. I live in Houston, TX and haven't found a place that does this. Anyone know of place? Prefer that it's in Tx or surrounding state....

Thanks,

Phil

ive heard bad stuff about getting your car dipped because when you go to get it painted, you wont be able to get paint into places like the heater channels and the tunnel and then they are likely to rot from the inside out.

I would never dipped the pans and the body together for one thing, also the pans will be blasted b/c its a farely easy process. the Heater Channel wont be a problem b/c they will be replaced. The are pretty much toast.

I have to replace the spare tire tray, heater channels, and front fire wall. So all of the places that are hard to be painted will be new and installed after being dipped....

Thank you though

These guys might be able to hook you up with a similar company in Texas.............

Their Process is similar to electrolysis cleaning of Treasure and old coins...

I had my Converitble top frame done by them... cost me about 70 dollars.... Amazing Results.......

Believe it or not, you can scrape the paint off with a razor blade in one of those holders the shops use to remove decals from windows. Seem it done by a body work guy and it was VERY feast and efficient. No dust to breathe, just paint scrapings you can pick up in your shop vac.
