Ceramics - more? Valve guides?

Post by [email protected] »

I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see the day that state-of-the-art ceramic technology would be brought to the ACVW. You (LN Engineering and Jake) are true pioneers to make an "obsolete" aircooled engine outlive and outperfrom a conventional waterhead. Lighter, faster is great!

Now let me ask a silly question to push the envelope again - can the ceramic technology be used to make valve guides?

I look forward to learning more.

No, but we are currently looking into some coatings that may help them!

Thanks John!

Adiabatic diesel engines use a few ceramic innards, to withstand extreeme operating temps.

We can DLC coat Nickies, on top of the nikasil. Reduces friction even further. Just don't ask what it costs :-) I just about died when I found out how much it costs.

It was something like $1k per cylinder. They claimed some pretty noteable HP increases though. More than likely the DLC coatings will free up HP left and right, but there's always some price to pay for perfection! :-)

Intake/exhaust manifolds for one thing.........talk about heat insulators!

I wonder how much a ceramic intake manifold would cost. Better yet how would you match port it to the head.
