36hp ice up and hesitation

1957 Type I stock (mostly) 36hp. Ices up and has a miss/hesitation right off idle if you hammer down. Otherwise runs well. I've had the manifold off and reamed the heat risers, which are now clear. They were plugged big time. What a job!! But still ices and hesitates. Running 009 distributor. Should I try a single vaccuum advance dizzy to correct hesitation? 36hp air cleaner doesn't have heat tube. Any thoughts about icing issue or hesitation issue? Thanks.

Stock muffler? Are you turning the choke off immediately? It helps to leave it slightly on until the manifold warms up, perhaps for the first mile on a cool morning.
Any distributor that gives more advance off-idle will reduce the severity of the flat spot (even cranking more initial advance in on the 009 would help) - but there's a risk of engine damage if you overdo it...up to and including crankshaft breakage.

Marc, thanks. I'll try a little advance. I have it set right on the single mark with timing light. Dwell set at 45 degrees.

The icing is weird. Stock muffler. I know the heat risers are clear. So are the little down tubes into the 36 hp muffler. It's 80+ gegrees here and I'm talking major condensation and very near icing at top of manifold and base of carb.

I switched stock 28 PCI manual choke carb for 28PICT with electric choke. Same performance and condensation. Condensation starts almost immediately on engine startup and is considerable by the time the car is fully warmed.
