The "Power tour" cross country cruise with a 3.0!
Thats right!
Looks like we'll be making the Classic in 2005 by cruising cross country in the Blue Bug with the 3.0 Type IV installed.
The specs on the engine can be found here as well as projected power output. http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/r_d_3_OH.htm
The latest squabble withDanimal over on the samba concerning TI Vs TIV is what has ended up spinning this off. I think the trip cross country with a 250HP 3 liter engine should prove exactly what theType IV can do. It will also be the final stage of product testing on my new type IV heads thet you can read about here http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/heads.htm
I know that nothing like this has been completed by a Type I powered vehicle to this point. A drive of over 2200 miles in the middle of summer to go show off the engine at the Classic will just be amazing and will definately speak volumes about The Type IV in general.
The engine will only be installed in the bug for testing, so we are not going to take huge amounts of time to detail the install. Len and I will just jump in and go!
The trip will take us across I40 with some short trips down route 66 through some smaller towns. Between now and the trip we'll set up some ways that we can hook up with other TIV enthusiasts and maybe give some rides....
So, whaddya think??? Does anyone want to join in with us for the trip???
BTW, if they do end up having drag racing at Fontana the weekend before the Classic we might be able to show off what it has for drag racing as well. We won't be able to run solid mounts across country so I'll have to take it easy a tad bit!
