How feasable is it to get 170+ft/lb torque from a 2270 t4?

I have been pondering on this for a while. I was wondering what it would take and how driveable it would be. I have this Ghia that needs some serious torque to move my fat arse around.

Will it be too difficult to get that level of torque from a 2270? or is it better to move up to a 2316? I want driveability and torque more than anything.

I know the 1910 is finally done and running smooth, but I have that certain decease ;)

Thanks,

Move to a 2316..

You can make that torque with much less tuning and more reliability..

Hmm, good to know. From a reliability/longevity standpoint, I guess the better choice would be the 2270. How reliable can the 2316 be Jake? I assume both engines would not be that far off in price from eachother.

Built correctly- Just as reliable as a 2270.

In fact until you add BS parts or go to a 2800+cc engine no type 4 becomes unreliable..

Good to know. Well, parts I have pnety of. Thanks for the input Jake. I do like the 2270 though, maybe for the Bug. The ghia definitely needs more grunt with me in it.

I weigh in at about 155. When I get the 2270 in my Ghia we can race. If we sent the accelleration times to jake, he can add a column to his charts, Like "for drivers over 250 lbs" Then he can give the engine the appropiate number of stars. LOL.

Hehe, Good one Ron. I weight almost double that. 265lbs here. But it will be good comparison, at least to estimate engine needs. Full bodied cars and lightened cars and so on.

:D

Hey Jake,

Now that the A-1 system has been tested to flow so well, do you think then that a 2270 would be the ticket for what l want?

This combo needs some road testing first before I can make an accurate observation.

I hear you. Thanks for doing all of this Jake.

This is probably a dead horse, but, with the A-1 all tested, how can that combo of A-1 and a propperly set 2270 work for a dual purpose car?

Also, looking at the 2270 engine kit on your store, I wanted to get it with ceramics. Are those still not available?

Did you get my PM on the 2073?

Just curious.

ephry, The 170 pounds of torque may well be a capability of a complete one of my engines with many of the same traits as plastermaster's.. But not with a kit simply because the kits are a much more simple engine and not available for dyno tuning which would definately be a key player to optimizing this combo to the degree it needs to be to make the power..

Also- Ceramic lifters are now removed from the Type 4 Store until the producer can keep up better- we have not completed an engine for 4 weeks in the shop because we have no ceramic lifters and 5 back orders through the store- thats why I discontinued them.

I seem to have missed the posts between the lifter problem solved and this one. Aren't reliable lifters available again? Why the dependency still on ceramics?

Yes, I have the issues worked out... BUT all my engines are accomplished through a proposal basis and all these engines were proposed with ceramic lifters- that can't be changed..

Also- Ceramic lifters are a standard on my complete engines just like cryogenics, its a huge edge that we have over the guys that think they are a competitor but have never heard of or used a ceramic lifter....

I simply can't afford a single failure or even the slightest hint of one...

Gotcha. Well, I still want to get this 2073 started, played with and done. Should be ok for playing around. I am thinking of ditching the Hydraulic lifter/camshaft combo for later.

Ceramics are lighter, and no compatability issues. Save weight, increase capability for RPMs and easier on the whole valvetrain. For the money, it's a great thing to get.

I am definitely planning that 2270 for the Fall. Once school is over and I have some cash in Pocket.
