Jake, what exactly is included in an engine kit?

Post by Mark the canuck »

I realize no casework and balancing

What about?

Flywheel

1.7 rockers

Rocker spacers

Rocker shims

8mm rocker studs

Cylinder shims

Pushrod tubes

Ceramic lifters

The 914 kits, I take it you send in your head cores?so do you order a 914 kit if it?s going in a bug?

What pistons are in the 5563cc kits?

Anything else not included in a longblock kit? Any core charges, etc.?

I take it you make a cam selection when you phone the customer.

You might want to list these items on the site, so your not answering these questions all the time and there is no surprises for the customer after he places his order.

I have a couple of guys interested in these kits that?s why I?m asking.

Cheers

Hi Mark,
I was just wondering, have you done any importing of that type of good in canada? If yes, what kind of custom duties (if any)?

All the part numbers listed at the bottom of each page are included in a kit. Basically here is the list.

This list is for the 2270 for a VW application. The list is the same for a 914 app, but the parts used for flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disc change, and that impacts the price.

This is basically everything to build a longblock, you can add the rest with the pull down menus in product details.

You can always email me for a full spreadsheet of what parts comprise each engine kit, their RAT part#s and the face of them.

I am working to upload this list into the software somehow. Anyone interested in a kit can email me for my Excel spreadsheets with itemized listings of whats included.

BTW- Mark is my only Canadian Rep, you can get any RAT part through him.

In Ontario customs collects both GST and PST, Canada Post charges $5 for brokerage.
UPS charges $45 brokerage and often double dips on the shipping. :x

Canada Post airmail takes 2 weeks to ship packages from the states, while UPS ground is often 5-7 days.

Never have shipped with Fed Ex, etc. but I've heard they cost more, but that's 2nd hand info, could be wrong.

Thanks Jake...I offer the complete Rat line-up including DTM's (T4's in stock) and will build any RAT kit, or if you want Jake to build it, I'll install it, no problems.

I'm hoping to also have my parts store/site up later this spring.

A note: we all like to save some coin and if you buy your kit direct I'll still build it, but if you have not consulted me prior to your purchase, any mistake on your order is your problem/cost.

If you are importing your kit/parts legally (you are right?...I don't want to know, your problem) my prices will be hard to beat.

thank you guys. The 15+% GST PST taxes are a pain. I'll have to find a workaround...

Mark, we might take that offline, but I have the possibility of taking that from Algeria. Then I'll have to trade off between shipping costs and taxes in Canada. I'll check with my broker here.
Anyway, its a good news to know you're there. Its a shorter ride than GA! (it took me a little while to figure that there was more than one Cleveland!!!)

I didnt see that on the web store. Wow, a 5.5 liter engine. I think that would just explode on startup, or the fastest 1/4 mile in bug history.

:D

Just want to double check before I complete the shopping cart process... If I order the 2270 with all optional extras, and an IRS B spec transaxle, what else will be needed to fit this into my 1303 (superbeetle)?

Many thanks,
Sam C

PS. As you can probably guess, the bank said yes ;)

BUT I plan on getting an engine kit with the DTM etc, and from what I have read the video comes with them, not the DVD... Cant see an option to upgrade to the dvd on the engine kit page...

Or shall i just type it into the notes/email you about it?

Thanks for your time.
