Well I am happy to report that the 3 liter has ran for it's first solid month without being touched!

This big engine has amazed me. It's smoothness, its brute power, its cool running and it's 25 MPG!

I have logged 2500 miles on this baby, been giving it hell as well as driving is smoothly... I even put a dozen full drag passes on it at the SE Drag Day and still haven't adjusted it yet! Not even tweeked a carb!

Here are some averages that I have kept up with..

Oil consumption= 1.5 qt in 2000 miles
Avg Head temp= 305(what a testament to the DTM! This is a 10:1 engine)
Avg Oil Temp= 215 (it only has a 24pass mesa cooler and the stock TIV cooler in the DTM)
Avg MPG= 25 highway
Flywheel HP= 231
Flywheel Tq= 235
Wheel HP= 196
Wheel Tq=195

What is totally astonishing is that I am sure this engine would live atleast 80K miles with these types of averages, maybe 100K! The entire project is astonishing and it still has more left in it!

I have pretty much parked the 912E for a few months to get it back in concourse shape after she turned 71K miles with no maintenance.

I plan on driving this car the rest of the summer and racking up as many miles as I can before pulling it for a cam swap and some mods to the heads that will allow us to run a ratio rocker. I then plan on testing the engine plus heads against these as well as a set of 2.0 914 spec heads that have had every trick known to man in their composition...

I will add EFI and 52mm Throttle bodies by the end of April and a full data logging system as soon as my customer gets it finished for me... Then I can share data plots from actual in car testing much easier.

Very cool! I am still astounded by this project, and cant imagine what it would be like to drive...

Any chance of filming some in car videos??

The shroud is hacked up and is half ass installed just to get run time in severe conditions..

That video you did with BugMe had me cranking the volume on the TV when you were letting loose in your 914 and at the end when you were "scaring the cows" in the bluebonic plague

Get a friend with a digital recorder and some nice condenser mics.. maybe master it to CD and sell it as "Type 4 soundscapes" with details on the engine specs for each of the tracks. Sounds of engines on the dyno.. what each muffler (A1, BAS, tangerine,..) sounds like.. In car runs.. drag runs.. burn-outs.. idle in wide stereo from under the car..

Oh the possibilities

After hearing the sound of Jake's bug nothing else is worth much! My MassIVe 2321 with Tangerine Super Header sounds like crap. I think it is best unheard unless you have the cash to have what he has. If you think your car sounds good then I would suggest that you not hear the "Beast". Once you hear it you will know that he has "IT" and we don't.

If being able to design, build and drive that engine feels half as good as it sounds Jake is one happy man.

It is a blast to drive no doubt. Honestly the power doesn't blow me away as much as how well it runs, how well it cools and how well we did on the first try with this baby.... When I designed the combo I never dreamed that it would be this streetable, smooth running or cool.

No amount of money will buy this one, or another one like it.... Its not for sale.

I finally did something for my self.... The car it will eventually end up installed into has been planned for over 10 years.

I told Beth we should install it in her Vert....... It drives so smooth I think even a Chick could handle it in traffic... But the 3,000 pound clutch gets very old, very quick.

Bert, Sorry to hear you're unhappy with your exhaust It really is hard to choose an exhaust system from the few choices we have. I was worried about my choice on the BAS, but I recall Jake mentioning it was quiet and similar sounding to a stock 911. The only thing I don't like about them is how tight fitting the mufflers are under the wheel wells. No winter chains for Dave when he goes to Lake Tahoe to ski! I'm thinking of leaving the headers and adapt a smaller and single corvette muffler. But i'm holding off on making a descision.

But anyways.. Given the ability to actually hear these setups side-by-side would be a great resource for those preparing for a TIV engine swap. I'm waiting for plastermaster to get his new 2270/A1 ready in his ghia so I can hear what the A1 sounds like.

I might leap if I like them, but I have this thing about curb dragging mufflers..

I'm almost embarassed to admit it, but the sound of my car is more important to me than I had thought.

This guy went so far as to design and make a fully working, scaled model of a ferrari for the "music".

I think that Bert wasn't complaining about the sound of his system... He was just trying to compare it to mine..

I am using Bert's exact same set up on Beth's vert with the "Super Efficient" project engine installed..

I love the sound of my Tangerine in the 914....
