ghetto turbo charger?

Post by ZionVier »

This is something I heard someone mention when I got my first beetle. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or has any feelings on it.
Make a ram air induction tube that goes into one section of a Y adaptor tube (PVC pipe?), with the other side being the standard air filter. so the faster you go the more air is naturally forced into the carb.
Obviously not having any filtering on the ram air portion of the intake will be damaging, but assuming there are filters in place... what is the general concensus on this "turbo"?

Obviously I haven't tried is since I don't know the outcome of it. I'm not willing to make my baby the genea pig.

Air, like most things, takes the path of least resistance. With the restriction of a filter on one side it is unlikly that any of the intake air will be filtered. Also at some point of speed it is likly the your jetting will be affected and the motor could be leaned out dangerously.

Attaching the fanhousing heater outlets to the carb don't help much either... Image
