Supercharged type 1

Moggy and others I am sure when doing your supercharger setups you must have looked into all possible setups. Moggy I saw your type 4 supercharged at big bang and was woundering if that could be done on a type 1 with original fan shroud.

Also what superchargers are available to fit type 1 with fanshroud. I know of the B&M which I think is real cool but have heard waiting times are like 6 months and then there is the hassle of getting it shipped from the states.

Also what are the advantages of running a pull though as aposed to a push through supercharged setup.

Will a 1914cc with 044's (42*37), engle 125 with 1.25:1 rockers be resonable for supercharging or will I need to downgrade the cam to 110 or 120?

There are no T1 blower kits available, apart from the Dick Landy kit and the old 50's, 60's ones. The Dick Landy kits that I've seen are great quality units, however they sure aren't designed for daily drivers, even with a Holley 4barrel on top, you'd still have to cut holes in the bodywork and decklid. The Dick Landy kit was designed for use in sand rails. So your only alternative is to desing and build your own kit, like me.

You'd be hard pushed to fit an Eaton unit in a T1 engine bay with T1 fanshroud as the intake is at the back, which would be butting right up against the T1 fanshroud. Therefore I'd steer clear of the roots blowers and look at the centrifugal units such as Vortex and Rotrex however I think they'd be a struggle to fit in there aswell. If I was going to go the blower route allover again but with a T1 motor I'd probably fit a Porsche fan unit which would (like on mine) free up enough space to the left of the fan for a blower (Eaton M45, M62 or M90 will all fit in the available space). You can buy a Porsche fan kit for the type one from people like Custom Speed Parts and B.A.S., top quality kits too, and they don't need any case machining either, they just bolt straight onto the oil filler/alternator stand studs. Without doing this to free up some space in the engine bay, I think you'd really struggle to fit a blower in there, your only alternative then would have to be a hideaway turbo kit like CB's.

Anyway whichever route you go I wish you luck and my main advice would be think everything through as carefully as you can and when making the blower mount from scratch, measure, measure and measure again, make things out of wood to start with, the move up to metal. If there's anything else I can help you with just post on this board.

I agree with the above.

I run the DLI with a Holley 650DP and I can't see anyone running this daily with the fear of inclimate weather with a wide open airfilter and engine bay, etc. Not to mention the gas mileage decrease when driven to it's potential.

I fixed the miles per gallon with an after market 16 gallon tank for increased capacity/range. The DLI does run smooth as glass and very cool on my 1776cc. I race it around town and reach average high speeds on the freeway sustained up to 25 mins. (75-85MPH) Sky is the limit, do your HOMEWORK and RESEARCH every possible angle to perfect your driving needs.

My 2 cents: Go get a CB Performance Turbo EFI Hide-away kit and close the lid. A 911 Fan kit and CB Turbo kit will work wonders. Check out Bad62Bug's profile and scope his home page.

Darryl what made you opt for the holley 4 barrel carb as aposed to a webber idf.

Also I just like the idea of running a supercharger and am not keen on the cb turbo as I have heard it makes the engine run hot and can have problems with the oil drain from the turbo, but if I don't go with a supercharger I will build myself a turbo system running through throttle bodies and maybe seal the fan shroud to the fire wall and to the vents below the rear window as per bergs book. Has anyone done this to a bug as he did it to aid cooling on a baja but I guess the idea is the same.

Simple answer to the IDF vs. Holley....PERFORMANCE!! Typically the Weber or Dell single dual throat will NOT push enough for the Blower's demands. Also, they are a bear to tune properly for my application.

As for the CB Turbo, find Bad62Bug and ask him some Q's, he's done a couple kits and no problems at all.

One cool thing about the DLI with Holley is parts for the carb are at my local Auto store, stock intake castings allow for ease of plug swaps and it's just awesome!!

Good Luck.
