Turbo question
READ everything you can get your hands on.
Decide what is your ultimate goal for the car (strip, street, both). Decide on a BUDGET (be realistic) then double that.
Once you know what you can spend and how fast you want to go, its easy to tell you what changes you have to make.

The car will be a summer driver.. just ordinary road use. My boss is giving me a small mitsubishi turbo if I can find it. The engine will be a stock 2.o with 1.8 heads and with porche cooling. I want it as simple as possible.

Simple is good. What type of carb(s) do you plan to use? Do you want it to push air through the carbs or draw air through? (blowthru/draw type)
You can use a stock motor in good shape if you keep boost (psi) low BUT the gains will also be minimal.
To make big power, gotta have strong bottom end, big heads (breathing), cam (specific for engine/turbo), and the right carbs.
There are several books available about turbo VW stuff, they would answer all your questions and put you "in the know" about what to do first.

AlphaC
Get some good rod bolts and forged pistons, and that bottom end will be plenty strong.
Make sure you get it all balanced.
Cheers

So I have to modify the internals too.. yikes I can see my money getting wings.
I guess the engine wont last long without those mods?
