i dont know that anyone does use it, but I could be wrong. A better question I think would be what size is the engine in the car, and what size is yours? As far as I can tell from everything that I have read, if the engine sizes are close, you should be ok, though I doubt that turbo will fit entirely under the decklid. keep in mind I am in no way an expert.

I use a a Garrett T3 Turbo from a Saab with 4.2 A/R compressor housing, and .48 exhaust housing. You can check out my spec's in the Post Your Set-UP thread on this forum.
According to a guy that I talked to that mods Saab's, the factory turbo was designed to generate low end torque with keeping production cost at a minimum. The Garrett was a little undersized for the engine. He also advises not to go over 15 PSI with these units, I run mine at 10. I think the turbo works well in my car, of course I do not have another turbo to compare it to.
Check out the link below on choosing used turbo's, and also do a search on this forum, you'll pick up lots of good info. Good luck with your install.

I run a T3 from a Saab 9000, probably an 1988 model, on my 1914cc type one. It is a really good match for my spec and spools up very quickly giving little or no lag. I run it at 12 psi with zero problems and this equated to 203hp. I am planning to up the boost shortly to 15 psi. The Saab t3 on a 1914 gives massive mid range power and will rev cleanly to above 6000 rpm. If you decide to increase your cc above 1914, then I suggest you look at larger A/R ratios...possibly Cosworth T3's as these are readily available and cheap.

although I'm new to turbos myself I'm still learning too. I was told a Garrett T3 or T03 off a Saab 900, Chrysler, or any 4 cylinder within the cc range of whats it's being put on will be fine. I know I could have bought a store bought turbo kit that is dialed in leaving no guess work, but hey that cost money and I'm having a lot more fun building it myself....I've met a lot of new friends that are willing to help me out too...isn't that what it's all about...
