Replacing Floor Pans

Post by beetlebeast »

I have decided that I am going to replace my pans on both sides and need a little guidance with removing the body. I made a checklist of things to disconnect/remove and things to buy/replace. If you can think of anything that I missed please add them. I am thinking of redoing the front suspension also but that's a whole other can of worms. Thanks for the help, Joe

Pan off removal Checklist

1. Remove gas tank and lines.
2. Remove Engine.
3. Remove interior seats.
4. Disconnect steering wheel and/or coupler.

Parts to be Replaced/Purchased

1. Floor Pans
2. Body to Pan Seal
3. Steering Coupler
4. Body to Pan Bolts

you'll need to disconnect the hoses from the brake resevior, and the wiring harness from the fuse block if you are planning on taking the body completely off.

You might want to replace the rubber body pads that go under the rear wheel well body mount and the ones that go on top of the beam, just under the tank, they are inexpensive, and most likely all dried up, smushed and cracked. Also you may as well replace the brake resevior hoses and the gas lines under the tank and under the rear of the car while you have everything apart. If you go looking at all the crap you could replace or fix while you have everything apart, you might find your self getting into more than you cared to... like me... this is my floor replacement gone crazy...

The wiring harness on this car is wierd. On my 70 it comes out of the drivers side footwell and runs along the drivers side of the car to the back. It doesn't do this on my 62 which is the one that I plan on removing the body. It looks as if someone ran it up and over the top of the body. I'm going to have to tear it apart to find out exactly where it goes. All of the fuel and brake lines are less than six months old but I will replace them. I don't suppose you have any pics of the rear body mounts that you speak of do ya? Maybe a link to one? Thanks for the help. Anyone or anything else?

I would love to be able to do it with the body on but I wasn't sure if it was possible. Please do send the pics.

I would also love to see pics of how to put in new pans without taking the body off.

Thanks
