What kind of work do you need to do to make a VW motor turbo'able? Are the cases and heads strong enough for boost? Or do you need modifications?

From what I've read here, some turbo books, and websites it seems to me that you are going to get lots of responses from throw one on any motor if you do not run the boost up to high to you must build the motor specifically for a turbo. I have come to the conclusion that it can be done by yourself if you can pluck enough information from the threads in this forum. If the motor is going to be a race motor with high boost (above 10 to 15 lbs) you better spend the money. If it will be a play motor or daily driver with only a slight desire to stomp on it occaisionally you may be able to get away with a stock motor but I would still build a decent bottom end.

I heard somewhere that some head work would have to be done. Is this true. I don't know where I got this, but I vaguely remember something about head bolts or soemthing. Any ideas?
