My body shop guy said he has a bunch of Subaru turbos in his basement he would give me. He thinks they are water cooled though. Does anyone know anything about the turbos Subaru uses? He said it would take him a few hours to find them, so he really doesn't want to do it unless I can use them.
Thanks...Mike

I know lots of people have done subaru engine conversions. You could use a water cooled turbo on any engine, it probably uses a very small radiator that could be mounted in a wheel well.

Good question. I have one also, and have been told I can run it. It is both water and oil cooled, and the reason it is water-cooler is so that Joe normal driver gets off the highway and pulls into his driveway and shuts the car off, it cools the housing enough to where it doesn't coke the bearings. That is what I was told and would like some clarification on that myself.

Me too. If that is the case I am set because I always do a cool down (I have a Golf TDI also). Anyone out there know for sure?
I will try to get a chance to call a subaru dealer.

Hey Mike, I might be interested in one if he has a bunch he's giving away. Are they made by Subaru?

Hi
Most Subarus used IHI turbos, difficult to find info on. If they are water cooled you should still be able to them without hocking-up the water.
