Building a turbo set up from salvage yard parts.
I'm looking to build a turbo set up from salvage yard parts. The car that it will be used on is a 71 type 1 1600cc.Stock carb ,stock cam.Nothing fancy , I just want to be able to keep up with traffic on the interstate.I do alot of driving in my work. What cars have the best turbo unit to get one from for what I want to do? Can I still get the same gas mileage? Will I have overheating problems using a turbo on a stock sedan body? I have the engine lid off set for better cooling. One of the guys from the local VW club built one from salvage yard parts and has been having a blast with his.I have all the welders I need to fabricate whatever I need.Any help would be appreciated.. Check out what we are building at www.locashracing.org It's a boneyard turbo (Ebay really...$68
) with a Holley carb my neighbor gave us for free. The header is mostly an old Tri-Mill and an old J tube. It not as hard as you think...
